5 Day Orange River Trip
2 days off river and 3 days on river
Are you ready for your advenTure?
Our river trips work as follows: Arrive in the afternoon and enjoy a braai and short induction on equipment and river rules.
Second day head off from campsite to Hopetown where you will pack your boats with all your camping, clothing and equipment needed. Your trip is 2 full days and 1 half day of paddling +-20k per day which does not require extreme fitness levels as the river is always flowing nicely.
You will spend two nights camping on the banks of the Orange. All meals are catered for you just need to bring daily river snacks (list supplied) and your drinks (list supplied).
You arrive just outside Douglas on the 3rd day at lunch time. We drive you back to our campsite where you enjoy a nice shower and wholesome meal. You leave the following morning after breakfast for home.

Children under 12 less 20%.

This was quite honestly the BEST and most memorable 4 days of our familys’ lives! Paddling the river with 3 families and with 6 children under the age of 12 was the perfect experience. Camp set up, fishing, swimming, game-viewing, stargazing, water gun fights, clean fresh water, amazing food, perfectly manageable rapids and wonderful hosts made our 4 days something we will treasure for a life time. Incredible Experience
This was an incredible experience. Lorna has planned the trip exceptionally well that you do not have to worry about anything. All you have to worry about is paddling down the river and admiring the natural beauty. The children also thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were often swimming in the river. This is a great family holiday.

This is a real adventure, paddling down the beautiful Orange river with a few exciting rapids, amazing scenery especially through the Lava Gorge where the rock formations are just incredible. Camping on the banks of the Orange is a very special experience, we were lucky enough to be there while the moon was full. Thank you to Steve our guide and to Lorna who provided the tastiest meals for us all! Add this one to your bucket
Fun getaway
We had a wonderful time on our trip! Adventure Kayaking were so professional and organised. I always felt safe and looked after on the river. The food was such a highlight! The rapids were easy to navigate and fun, while the paddling in between was moderately tough, but very soothing in a way. Camping on the banks on the river and waking up with a stunning sunrise was just incredible
The ultimately river experience
Thanks to Gavin and Lorna for what was an incredible few days on the Orange River. The hospitality, scenery and professionalism absolutely second to none. We leave with some incredible memories. As a family we have Kayaked the Orange in Namibia, as well as several rivers in Europe and New Zealand. This was up there with the best in the world so if you’re looking for adventure coupled with a big dose of hospitality I’d recommend Adventure Kayaking.

What an amazing trip. We did it as a family and it was worth every minute. Being out on the river and camping on the river bank was a wonderful experience. The organisation from start to finish was perfect. Lorna is very orgnaised and everything went according to plan. Her food preparation is excellent and we all ate well. Gavin and Steve on the river were great. Very organised and a pleasure to travel with. Two great guys. Safety always came first. The two nights in the lodge were a bonus. I would highly recommend the trip. I would easily do it again. Well done Adventure Kayaking. 10/10!

The trip was awesome. We were a group of 10 friends and we had the time of our lives. Thank you Lorna the food was delicious. Hats off to Gavin and Steve that made sure we enjoyed ourselves on the river, through the rapids, and on the banks of the Orange in a safe way. Listen to them and you will have the greatest time you will ever have on the Orange river. SA is a beautiful country and it was awesome to experience God’s creation in a kayak on the orange river. For me the best way to relax is in nature,so this is absolute the best ,paddling along a clean river , staring above to the cloud formation,then left and right at the magnificent rock shapes and sizes,the way they stack so perfectly,there colours and melted wax appearance.
Then the sightings of fish eagles and hearing them calling , also seeing water monitor basking upon their splendid rock beds.

Dear Gavin, Steve and Lorna, thank you for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Thank you for being so patient with the endless questions before the time and on the trip itself. Everything was superbly organised, making us comfortable that we are in capable hands. What an incredible experience.
The food was delicious and our guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
The river and the Karoo that surrounds it is breath taking, photos and words don’t do the landscape justice.
We will be back, hopefully when the river is not in flood!! haha

It was amazingly planned and organised with guides who knew the river like the back of their hand, the river was magical, and the food planned by Lorna was delicious! Lorna made sure to make food for vegans and vegetarians. An awesome experience will be back soon!
March kayak adventure!
When four ladies, all in our fifties, and two of my daughters, in their twenties, decided to go on a kayak adventure on the orange river we had no idea what we were letting ourselves in for. We planned our trip for the March school break. The weather was a 50 -50% chance of rain at any given time, yet we never had rain, not on the river or while tenting – that was a blessing. Poor Gideon, Gavin and Lorna had to answer all our questions about the what if’s and maybe’s and find space for an additional sleeping bag or two. The weather ended up being so nice that we never did use our sleeping bags as the blankie provided was more than enough to keep us warm at night.
The lodge provided a wonderful ambiance close to the river with bedrooms for two and an on-suite bathroom with a shower. The first night we were treated with a lamb curry potjie that immediately set the standard for the meals for the rest of the strip – thank you Lorna for a well-planned menu with pleasant surprises as we travelled on the river. With demo’s done for setting up your own tent and how to use the PFG’s as well as how to stay in your kayak during rapids together with what to do when you end up in the river we set off with great excitement the next morning. The next three days on the river was everything and more than what we expected – the scenery and ambiance on the river cannot be described in word – you have to be there yourself! And of course, the trip is any rock-lover’s dream with agate and crystals found all along the route.
The last night we were treated with a braai back at the lodge. Thank you to Gideon and Micheal who were our tour guides for patience and help whenever we needed it, and for taking our kayaks through hubbly-bubbly – it was fun to watch the professionals in action! What a special adventure indeed!
Memories for life
I am not exactly an adventurous person. I did this with my husband and two sons, but I have to say, I am so glad that we did it! The scenery is absolutely beautiful, the evenings were so calm and relaxing and the river was exiting. Gavin, Gideon and Mike made sure that we were prepared for each rapid/obstacle. I didn’t feel unsafe once. The food was delicious. Everything was well planned and organised. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure. It surely is an unforgettable experience. New friends were made and we will definitely do it again.
